A DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE FOR LIFE:

Tuesday, January 22,2009

In all the dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.

ACTION ALERT!

Parishioners across the Archdiocese of Denver will have the opportunity to join Catholics across the country in sending a message to Congress:

"Please oppose the "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA) and retain laws against government funding and promotion of abortion." FOCA, the most radical and divisive pro-abortion bill ever introduced in Congress, would create a "fundamental right" to abortion that government could not limit but would have to support. FOCA would overturn many existing widely-supported policies, including laws protecting parental involvement and conscience rights and those preventing partial-birth abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion. Postcards to your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators will be available soon for your signature. Please plan to participate in this important event!

RCIA will meet on both Thursday, Jan.8th and Thursday, Jan. 22nd at 6:00 PM at Sacred Heart Rectory.  It is important to attend the classes as we are fast approaching the Rite of Election.

Anyone who would like to donate items to the Preston Ranch (gallon cans of veggies, fruits, boxes of cereal, mac & cheese, paper products) are asked to bring them to Sacred Heart Church Dec. 7th.

Mark Your Calendars – the NET Team will be at Sacred Heart on Saturday, January 17th to do a retreat for our Youth of our Tri-parish.  The details are being worked out, but put a BIG circle on your calendar for this one. Please welcome Briana Dorren from NET this Sunday. Briana Dorren: Briana is 18 years old and is from Northeastern Colorado. She is the oldest of 9 children. This is Briana's second year serving on NET and has received much joy from this experience and will treasure these years. Briana's roles on the team are that of drama leader and female recruiter. Briana enjoys writing, playing sports, singing along to her favorite music and playing crazy games with kids

Attention all 2008-2009 Confirmation Students and Parents of Confirmandi: Confirmation classes will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall (Sacred Heart, Roggen) every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Until further notice, Tuesday weekday Mass and Adoration will be at 5:00 PM.  Mass will begin at 5:00 PM and Adoration will start immediately following Mass for about 1 hour.  It is hoped that this might allow those who cannot attend morning Mass an opportunity for Daily Mass at a later time.

The Legion of Mary has a prison ministry outreach.  They are in need of volunteers to remove the staples from booklets and magazines and then sew the binding with needle and upholstery thread so that they may be used at the prisons. Please contact Karla Huston at 970-483-7229 if you can help in this outreach ministry.

Respect Life Words of Life …...Divorce and abortion are, of course, different choices, at times made in difficult and dramatic circumstances. They often give rise to traumas and are a source of profound suffering for the people who make them. ... They leave wounds that mark life indelibly. The Church has the primary duty to approach [such] people with love and delicacy, with kindness and maternal concern, in order to announce the merciful closeness of God and Jesus Christ. ... Yes, the gospel of love and of life is also always the gospel of mercy.

Healing Service & Praise Mass with Fr. Dan Norick on   the first Saturday of every month, at 6:30 p.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 42nd & Federal Blvd., Denver. Music will be provided by Phil Perez and his praise band.. Call (303) 432-2694 with prayer requests if you are unable to attend.

Priests of the Archdiocese of Denver make a radical choice to follow Jesus' call to be His servant-leaders. Their lives of joyful sacrifice bring to the people of northern Colorado the message of Jesus Christ that: I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live! (John 11:25). A priest is empowered by Christ to overcome death, sin, and despair with the message of life, forgiveness, and hope that is the core of the Gospel

Can you Answer the Call? Become a Foster Parent! - “Receive a little child, and you receive me,” Jesus said.  There are approximately 9,000 children in out-of-home placement in Colorado.  Learn how you can answer the call and receive one or more of these children by becoming foster or adoptive parents.  Join the Archdiocese of Denver & Catholic charities for an informational meeting on how to become Foster Parents at the John Paul II Center on Wednesday, May 14th from 7-8 pm.  Contact Cheryl Garcia for more information at 303-742-0828 or cgarcia@ccdenver.org.
