Tell Congress: Remove Abortion Funding & Mandates from Needed Health Care Reform

Congress is debating health care reform legislation on the House and Senate floors. Genuine health care reform should protect the life and dignity of all people from the moment of conception until natural death. The U.S. bishops’ conference has concluded that all committee approved bills are seriously deficient on the issues of abortion and conscience, and do not provide adequate access to health care for immigrants and the poor. The bills will have to change or the bishops have pledged to oppose them.

Our nation is at a crossroads. Policies adopted in health care reform will have an impact for good or ill for years to come. None of the bills retains longstanding current policies against abortion funding or abortion coverage mandates, and none fully protects conscience rights in health care.

As the U.S. bishops’ letter of October 8 states: “No one should be required to pay for or participate in abortion. It is essential that the

legislation clearly apply to this new program longstanding and widely supported federal restrictions on abortion funding and mandates, and protections for rights of conscience. No current bill meets this test…. If acceptable language in these areas cannot be found, we will have to oppose the health care bill vigorously.”

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,

 Never forget that in fighting for them, you are fighting for all innocent human life.  Each person is made in the image and likeness of God.  Each person is precious in His sight.  Each person is deserving of full protection under the law.  For as our Founding Fathers put it in our Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

To protect that fundamental right to life, the signers of that Declaration pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.  And they did so “with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence.”

We must do nothing less today!  The unborn need us more than ever.  They need our lives.  They need our fortunes.  And they need us to honor God’s gift of life.

This is especially true in light of the “Abortion Manifesto” which the heralds of the culture of death fully expect to accomplish ... if not in Obama’s first 100 days in office, then most assuredly over the next four years.

If carried out – especially passage of the “Freedom of Choice Act” – it will undo twenty years of pro-life progress and enshrine abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy as a legal right for generations to come.  What’s more, it includes a plan that will export abortion beyond our borders and impose the killing of innocent children on every nation in the world.  

What’s more a powerful coalition of 33 rabid pro-abortion groups have signed on to the “Abortion Manifesto” and will spare no expense to see this diabolical agenda passed.  All the usual suspects are there ...           

                        ... Planned Parenthood
                        ... Catholics for Choice
                        ... NARAL
                        ... the ACLU
                        ... National Abortion Federation
                        ... Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
                        ... and dozens more!

Combined, these groups have literally hundreds of millions of dollars to spend in their fanatical drive to achieve every single one the priorities listed in the Manifesto.

And the current leadership of the “Abortion Congress” will be only too willing to go along.

As will Barack Obama.  After all: 

  • He voted against legislation that would save the lives of innocent babies who were born alive in botched abortions ... not once but THREE TIMES!!!

  • He promised Planned Parenthood that his first action as President would be to sign the “Freedom of Choice Act” – which is on page 15 of the “Abortion Manifesto.”

  • And he is the man Archbishop Charles Chaput calls “the most committed ‘abortion-rights’ presidential candidate of either major party since the Roe v. Wade abortion decision in 1973.”With all that going against them, how will our unborn brothers and sisters survive?  Who will protect them?  Who will give of themselves and stand up to these pro-abortion extremists? 

In asking that I am reminded of the call of Isaiah.  King Uzziah had just died.  The Israelites had become morally and spiritually corrupt.  They had turned to idolatry.  The remnant that were faithful to God began to despair.  They felt alone and overmatched.  It appeared all was lost.  At this dark time, Isaiah went up to the temple to pray.  While there he had a vision of the Lord of Hosts Who, knowing the plight of His Chosen People, asked him:

Whom shall I send?  And who will go for us?

 Without hesitation, Isaiah replied:  

Here am I.  Send me!

Well, our situation here in the United States in 2009 is not all that different from Israel’s back then.  A great many of our fellow Americans now worship the almighty dollar.  They ignore God and His loving plan of salvation.  Consumed with love of self, they turn a blind eye to the poor and oppressed ... and in particular, the unborn.

And so God is calling out again:

Whom shall I send?  Who will awaken My people?  Who will speak out for My precious unborn children?  Who will go for Me?

Like Isaiah, our answer must be immediate.  Holding nothing back, we must reply:

Here am I, Lord.  Send me!  I will give of myself for the sake of Thy unborn innocents!  I will speak out in their defense!  I will awaken the people!  

That must be your answer today.  I pray that it is.  And when you click here, you’ll show that it is!
