THE CHALLENGE!

Now, we have a challenge.  The 40 Days for Life Vigil Schedule is still pretty empty.  We need you to make a commitment to pray at PP at least one hour per week for the next 40 days.  Please prayerfully discern your commitment.

When you have chosen your dates and times, please go to http://www.vigilcalendar.com/denver/login/login_page.  You will have to log in.  Once you login, you will see three colors:  Red, Yellow and Green.

color Red

Red means that no one is scheduled and we need your help!!  Please choose to fill in the red areas first.

Color Yellow

Yellow means that only one person is present, praying at Planned Parenthood that day.  This is still not good, but at least someone is there...

Color Green

Green means that God has blessed that time and date with PRAYER WARRIORS and more than two are present as a prayerful witness!!!

The other area to consult is the EVENTS page.  The events page has the list of parishes that are participating as a group and even if the Vigil page shows red, if there is a parish listed, there will be Prayer Warriors present to accompany you and the unborn.

**IF YOUR PARISH IS NOT LIST, PLEASE SPEAK TO YOUR PARISH PRIEST AND/OR YOUR RESPECT LIFE COORDINATOR FOR MORE INFORMATION.  THEY MAY BE WAITING TO HEAR FROM VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE A COMMITMENT.

CAMPAIGN DATES: FEBRUARY 22 - APRIL 1, 2012

New figures directly from the Komen for the Cure foundation show 18 affiliates of the breast cancer charity gave a total of more than $569,000 to the Planned Parenthood abortion business in 2010.

The donations will certainly prompt the continued boycott of the Komen breast cancer group by

millions of pro-life Americans who find it disingenuous that the women's organization would partner

with an abortion business when abortions are linked to an increase in breast cancer and when

Planned Parenthood has been proven to mislead the public by falsely claiming it performs

mammograms.

The "Sacrament" of Abortion

The Sacrament of Abortion is the title of a book written by Ginette Paris and published in 1992. In this short book, the author claims that abortion is a sacred act, a sacrifice to Artemis (known to the Romans as Diana).

Artemis is both a protector of wild animals and a hunter who kills them with deadly aim. How can these contradictory roles be found in the same female deity? The view proposed in this book is that a mother properly cares for life only if she possesses full power over life and death. Death is sometimes preferable. The one who can provide death, in order that one may escape an unfriendly life, is really loving the one who is being killed. more

Planned Parenthood Prez Gets Grant for Pro-Abortion "Catholic" Group

by Steven Ertelt | LifeNews.com | 6/20/11 7:30 PM

The president of the Planned Parenthood Breton business is facing accusations she used her position on the board of directors of the Ford Foundation to enable a grant for a heretical pro-abortion organization that bills itself as a Catholic group.

The Ford Foundation gave a grant to "Catholics for Choice" to the tune of $300,000 to provide "general support to assist Catholic policy makers, groups that empower women of color and others disproportionately impacted by public policies that affect reproductive health care options."

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards was named a trustee of the Ford Foundation last February and chairs the board's Finance Committee. Ford trustees serve six-year terms, and may be re-elected to the board for a second term. The 15-member board of trustees sets broad policy related to the foundation's issue areas and geographic focus and oversees its investments and grants.

David Schmidt of Live Action, the pro-life group that exposed practices at Planned Parenthood like covering up cases of sexual abuse and helping sex traffickers arrange abortions for their victims, condemned the grant.

"Catholics for Choice is an organization that advocates for the right to abort one's child - against established Catholic church teaching. While the organization has twice been condemned as a fraud by U.S. Catholics bishops but they boast a significant budget funded mostly by a select group of foundations," he said.

Schmidt said he was not surprised that Richards steered the grant to "Catholics for Choice" given that the Ford Foundation's finance committee is influential in determining the final recipients of grants.

"The Finance Committee shall assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to: reviewing and monitoring spending policy for the Foundation consistent with the Foundation's long term goals; reviewing and monitoring the Foundation's budget, including program and management appropriations and capital spending; and such other matters as the Board of Trustees may from time to time determine," foundation documents say.

Schmidt said the donation puts Richards in the position of attempting to pressure the Catholic Church on abortion.

"Since it is established that Catholics for Choice (and the Ford Foundation via their funding) are working to change Catholic teaching, does Cecile Richards as a non-Catholic support this move to change Catholic teaching on abortion?" he asked. "Does Cecile Richards feel it is appropriate as a non-Catholic to try to advocate changing Catholic church beliefs? Does Richards feel it is appropriate to try to change the beliefs or Muslims or other faiths she is not a member of?"

When she was named to the Ford Foundation board, Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America commented on Richards' selection.

"This appointment helps expose Ford Foundation's long-time radical work on population control," she said.

"Cecile Richards joining the board of the Ford Foundation reinforces the concern that wealthy elites never ended their penchant for eugenics. Planned Parenthood and the Ford Foundation are two major players in the sordid history of population control. They both pioneered campaigns targeting poor minorities," she continued. "They both represent rich and powerful people who, as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg put it, believe that abortion is a solution to 'growth in populations that we don't want to have too many of.'"

"This alignment does not bode well for the poor and vulnerable who love life and need help to care for their young," Wright said.

According to its Annual Report, the largest contributors in 2008 to the Center for Reproductive Rights, a New York-based legal group that is active in overturning pro-life laws in the United States and promoting abortion abroad, included the Ford Foundation.

According to its latest annual report, the pro-abortion  International Women's Health Coalition (IWHC) includes the Ford Foundation as one of its largest backers.

Samantha Singson of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute has also noted that the international non-governmental organization Equality Now, a group that has spearheaded campaigns for abortion access in Poland and Nepal, "receives major funding from pro-abortion foundations including George Soros' Open Society Institute and the Ford Foundation."

Holy Father's Words to 6 New Ambassadors

"Technology Should Help Nature Develop Along the Lines Envisioned by the Creator"

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 9, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the message Benedict XVI gave to six new ambassadors to the Holy See: George Robert Furness Troup of New Zealand, Stefan Gorda of Moldava, Narciso Ntugu Abeso Oyana of Equatorial Guinea, Hussan Edin Aala of Syria, Henry Llewellyn Lawrence of Belize, and Geneviève Delali Tsegah of Ghana.

The Holy Father gave one speech addressing all the new diplomats and then gave letters to each

individually, which addressed the specific nations they represent.

* * *

Lady and Gentlemen Ambassadors,

I receive you happily this morning in the Apostolic Palace for the presentation of the letters that

accredit you as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of your respective countries to the Holy See: Moldavia, Equatorial Guinea, Belize, the Arab Republic of Syria, Ghana and New Zealand. I thank you for the kind words you addressed to me on behalf of your respective heads of state.

Please be kind enough to transmit to them in return my deferent greetings and my respectful wishes for their persons and for the high mission they carry out at the service of their countries and their people.

Through you, I also wish to greet all the civil and religious authorities of your nations, as well as the whole of your compatriots. Naturally, my prayers and thoughts go also to the Catholic communities present in your countries.

As I have had the opportunity to meet each one of you privately, I now wish to speak to you in a more general way. The first half of this year was marked by innumerable tragedies that have affected nature, technology and people. The magnitude of these catastrophes challenges us. It is good to remember that before all else, the person comes first. Humanity, to whom God has entrusted the stewardship of nature, cannot be dominated by technology and become its subject. This awareness should lead states to reflect together on the short-term future of the planet, given their responsibilities with regard to our lives and technology. Human ecology is an imperative. Adopting a lifestyle that respects our environment and supports the research and use of clean energies that preserve the patrimony of creation and that are safe for human beings should be given political and economic priority.

In this sense, it is necessary to completely revise our approach to nature. Nature is not simply a space that is useful or recreational. It is, rather, the place where man was born; his "home," so to speak.

It is essential for us. A change in mentality in this realm, even with the contradictions it entails,

must make it possible to quickly arrive at a global lifestyle that respects the covenant between humanity and nature, without which the human family risks disappearing. Hence, serious reflection must be engaged in and precise and viable solutions must be proposed. Every government must commit themselves to protecting nature and assisting it to carry out its essential role in the survival of humanity. The United Nations seem to be the natural framework for this type of reflection, which should not be obscured by blindly partisan political or economic interests in order to give preference to solidarity over particular interests.

It is also helpful to ask ourselves about the appropriate role of technology. The wonders it is

capable of go hand in hand with social and ecological disasters. By extending the relational aspect of work to the planet, technology imprints on globalization an especially accelerated rhythm.

However, the basis of the dynamism of progress corresponds to man who works and not to

technology, which is no more than a human creation. To bet on it unreservedly or to believe it is the exclusive agent of progress or happiness, entails a reification of humanity that leads to

blindness and misery when he himself attributes and delegates to it the powers it does not have.

It is enough to see the "ravages" of progress and the dangers that an all-powerful and ultimately

uncontrolled technology poses to humanity.

Technology that dominates human beings deprives them of their humanity. The pride it generates has created an impossible economism in our societies as well as a hedonism that subjectively and selfishly regulates behavior. The weakening of the primacy of the person leads to existential confusion and the loss of the meaning of life. The vision of man and material things that lacks a reference to transcendence uproots man from the earth and, more fundamentally, impoverishes his very identity. Hence, it is urgent that we match technology with a strong ethical dimension, given that the capacity man has to transform and, in a certain sense, to create the world through his work is always based on the first original gift of things made by God (John Paul II, "Centesimus annus," No. 37).

Technology should help nature develop along the lines envisioned by the Creator. In working

together, the researcher and the scientist adhere to God's plan that wished to place humanity as

the apex and the administrator of creation. Solutions based on this principle will protect human

life and its vulnerability, as well as the rights of the present and future generations. And humanity will be able to continue to benefit from the progress that man, by his intelligence, is able to realize.

Conscious of the risk that humanity runs when it considers technology to be a more efficient "

answer" than political will or patient educational efforts to civilize customs, governments should

promote a humanism that respects the spiritual and religious dimension of human persons. The

dignity of the human person does not vary with changes in opinion. Respecting human aspirations to justice and peace allows the construction of a society that promotes itself when it sustains the family or when it refuses, for example, the exclusive primacy of finance. A country lives from the plenitude of the life of the citizens that make it up, each one being conscious of his own responsibilities and being able to give worth to his own convictions.

Moreover, the natural tendency to the true and the good is a source of a dynamism that engenders the will to collaborate in bringing about the common good. Thus social life can be enriched constantly by integrating the cultural and religious diversity through putting values in common, source of fraternity and communion. Social life should be considered, above all, as a reality of the spiritual order.

Politicians in charge have the mission of guiding persons to human harmony and the wisdom they so desire, which should culminate in religious freedom, a true sign of peace.

On beginning your mission to the Holy See, I assure you, Excellencies, that you will always find

in my collaborators attentive listening and the help you might need. Upon you yourselves, your

families, the members of your diplomatic missions and upon all the nations you represent, I invoke the abundance of divine blessings.

Dear Friends in Christ

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,

In 1995, the recently beatified, Pope John Paul II wrote these words in his encyclical,

Evangelium vitae:

En 1995, el recientemente beatificado, Juan Pablo II escribió estas palabras en su encíclica,

Evangelium Vitae:

"To all the members of the Church, the people of life and for life, I make this most urgent appeal, that together we may offer this world of ours new signs of hope, and work to ensure that justice and solidarity will increase and that a new culture of human life will be affirmed, for the building of an authentic civilization of truth and love."

"Para todos los miembros de la Iglesia, la gente de vida y por la vida, yo hago este

llamamiento más urgente, que juntos podamos ofrecer este mundo nuestro nuevos signos

de esperanza, y trabajar para asegurar que justicia y solidaridad incremente y que una

nueva cultura de vida humana se afirme, para la edificación de una civilización autentica

de la verdad y el amor."

And, so as the "people of life and for life" let us continue to pray for an "authentic civilization of

truth and love."

Y, como la "gente de vida y por la vida" continuemos rezando por una "civilización autentica de

la verdad y el amor".

Almighty Father and Lord of life,

Padre todopoderoso y Señor de Vida,

Stir in our hearts a greater love for you and for each other.  Reawaken in the heart of every

pregnant mother a profound love for the life growing in her womb and grant to her unfailing

courage to choose life for her child.

Alborota en nuestro corazón un amor más grande para ti y para los demás.  Despierta de nuevo

en el corazón de cada madre embarazada un profundo amor por la vida creciendo en su vientre y dale valor fuerte para elegir la vida de su hijo.

Lord Jesus, the firstborn of all creation, have mercy on us. Accept our prayers and our fasting in atonement for the tragic sin of abortion. By the merits of your precious blood shed for our

redemption, instill in all hearts a profound respect for the gift of life and bring about an end to

abortion, euthanasia and every other assault on innocent human life.

Come Holy Spirit, strengthen us and give us fortitude to work tirelessly to promote a true

Culture of Life, a culture that recognizes the dignity and sanctity of every person.

Raise up men and women to serve in public office who will enact laws which will safeguard and

protect all human life.

mantendrán a salvo y protegerán toda vida humana.

Blessed Mary, Mother of God, you bore the Author of Life in your womb. Through your

intercession may our hearts be conformed to yours so that we might accept, nurture and cherish

all human life.

Bendita María, Madre de Dios, Tu distes a luz al Autor de Vida en tu vientre.  Que por tu

intercesión se conformen nuestros corazones al tuyo para que quizás aceptemos, nutríamos y

apreciemos toda vida humana.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, ten misericordia de nosotros.

Proposed Legislation in Russia Seeks to Strongly Restrict Abortions in Order to Overcome Low Birthrates

We have discussed here before the population implosion taking place in most parts of Europe. Approximately 2.1 Children per woman are needed to maintain the population of a given country or ethnic group. In most of Europe, the birthrate hovers well below 2, often as low as 1.3 in some Eastern European countries.  In effect these cultures are aborting and contracepting themselves out of existence.

As populations shrink, so do economies and so does the ability to provide basic services, and staff the engine of production. Some countries rely on large numbers of immigrants to fill the gaps. But these immigrants do not often share the faith and culture of the people they are gradually replacing. The result is a dying European culture. We have certainly discussed these matters extensively here before. (e.g. HERE)

Now comes the news from AP- that proposed legislation in Russia would seek to severely curtail abortion to stem the tide of eroding populations. Here is the brief article.

MOSCOW (AP) - Russia's Orthodox Church teamed with Conservative parliamentarians Monday to push legislation that would radically restrict abortions in a nation struggling to cope with one of the world's lowest birthrates.

The legislation would ban free abortions at government-run clinics and prohibit the sale of the morning-after pill without a prescription, said Yelena Mizulina, who heads a parliamentary committee on families, women and children.

She added that abortion for a married woman would also require the permission of her spouse, while teenage girls would need their parents' consent. If the legislation is passed, a week's waiting period would also be introduced so women could consider their decision to terminate their pregnancy, Mizulina said.

Mirabile visu, mirabale auditu! (Wondrous to see! Wondrous to hear!)

Clearly, more will be necessary to stem the tide than this, but it is a recognition of the fact that abortion (and I would add, contraception) have devastated Western Cultures (including Eastern Europe). Any culture that either celebrates them or is too permissive of them will ultimately suffer from a kind of implosion.

For, it would seem that many today consider children too much trouble, too expensive, or too impacting our their lifestyle. Many prefer expensive and large homes, along with many expensive creature comforts. They prefer these to children.  When this becomes a cultural trend, that culture is doomed.

Some will argue that the cost of living is too high today to have more than one or two children. While economic questions have a considerable complexity, it must also be admitted that we have chosen rather elaborate and expensive lifestyles. There are many things that we could and would do without, if we valued children more.

Now, faced with serious threats to their on-going viability as a country and a culture, the Russians are considering how to limit abortion, which has been legal there since the 1920s!

Let's pray that other countries will wake up, including our own to the fact that we cannot go on killing our children, or  preventing their existence and expect to thrive. France has begun to turn things around, it's birth rate is edging back up toward 2.0. Perhaps other countries will also turn back the tide on abortion and contraception, and come to see that if we do not love life, we tend to die.
